Shelby Mathis is in her second year at the Consumer Product Safety Commission, serving as its Small Business Ombudsman.  Through her office, Shelby aims to provide information to small businesses in a fashion that is clear, easy to understand, and consistent with agency policy.  Before joining the CPSC, Shelby worked at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures licensing intellectual property developed at Johns Hopkins University and its School of Medicine.  She also previously served as the Intellectual Property Director for the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, a Juris Doctorate, and is a licensed Patent Attorney.
