Mike Kauffman is an Associate General Counsel at 3M Company.  3M is a Fortune 100 global manufacturing company with diverse product lines in the industrial, safety, health care, electronics, and consumer marketplaces. 

Mike has overall general counsel responsibility for 3M’s Consumer Business Group, which sells a wide variety of consumer products ranging from Post-It® Notes and Scotch™ home and office tapes to Filtrete™ furnace filters and Nexcare™ bandages.  Mike also serves as the division general counsel for 3M’s Construction & Home Improvement Markets Division and 3M’s Consumer Health Care Division.  He regularly works with these businesses on a range of topics, including antitrust, distribution, pricing, contracts, product safety, labeling and hazard communication, regulatory compliance, advertising and marketing, social media, and other legal and compliance issues.

Prior to joining 3M’s Consumer Business in 2016, Mike spent 10 years as a division general counsel to several of 3M’s Industrial Business Group divisions, including most recently its Industrial Adhesives & Tapes Division and Abrasive Systems Division.  Mike also has served as secretary and general counsel to several 3M subsidiaries.

From 2000-2006, Mike worked at Armstrong Teasdale LLP in St. Louis, Missouri, focusing his practice on complex commercial litigation and antitrust counseling.  From 1999-2000, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard Voorhees, United States District Court Judge for the Western District of North Carolina. 

Mike graduated from Wake Forest University, with a major in economics and history, and from Wake Forest University School of Law.  He lives in Woodbury, Minnesota with his wife, two children, three cats, and two dogs.
