DeWane Ray, Deputy Executive Director for Safety Operations, oversees the Commission’s programs for Compliance and Field Operations; Import Surveillance; Hazard Identification & Reduction; International Programs and the CPSC’s Small Business Ombudsman.  Mr. Ray has been the Deputy Executive Director for Safety Operations since July 2016.  The offices under Mr. Ray’s leadership are directly responsible for the implementation of the Commission's safety standards development projects, the coordination of voluntary standards activities, international liaison activities, compliance investigations, enforcing safety standards import surveillance, business education and outreach, hazard analysis, data collection, and managing emerging hazards.

Since joining the Commission in 2001, Mr. Ray has served in a number of leadership positions in its Office of Hazard Identification and Reduction, and the Office of Information Technology.  He previously held the position of Deputy Executive Director for Operations Support from June 2013 to June 2016.  Mr. Ray is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and has a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.  He is a licensed professional engineer.
