While companies continue to introduce innovations at an accelerating rate, development of industry regulations and requirements rarely keep pace. As a result, trendy and often wildly popular products do not fit neatly into existing product categories with existing product specifications and safety standards. Products like hover boards and rare earth magnet sets are but two examples.  This session will discuss the challenges and solutions for ensuring that innovation and convenience does not come at the expense of consumer safety, and will cover developing effective risk assessment procedures for these "out of scope" products.
